Of SAINT'S AND SINNERS

The swahili really ate when they said Kikulacho ki nguoni mwako. Because folks really be looking outwards as to what ails them while the answer most of the times is much closer than you think! Sometimes I think the reason folks do this ( look outwards) is because they fear accountability that would have to come with looking inwards and introspection. I would hope that that's the case because if not then it points to something (s) more sinister but I digress.

A while back the patriarch of a home had died and upon death it was discovered that he had been sampling a relative which had resulted in a child all allegedly. While what goes on between two consenting adults is no one's business ( huge gamble on the assumption of consent because said patriach was an alleged known sex predator who for years had been assaulting maids and others under his employment and roof), the fact that no one questioned the balance of power as a contributing factor to what was alleged to have taken place but infact heaped blame and abuse on said relative was a big tell. Because we all know that it's always the woman at fault ( plus I'm sure other folks will be in my mentions justifying his actions with the phrase 'kwani kama bibi hapeani itabidi atafute kwingine' and other stories)! Because God forgive that one would reasonably expect that an offer of room and board should come free of sexual harassment/abuse. God forbid you should have an expectation of safety and not be expected to pay for the offer of room and board with sexual favours but we all know know what type of a world we live in. One that puts girls and women at a huge disadvantage. Having to choose between homelessness or sex for rent šŸ¤”

But while everyone was busy clutching their pearls and looking in disgust at the preyed upon relative( i choose to believe that she was indeed preyed upon), they forgot that they actually had a bigger problem that would make whatever scandal they thought this particular lady had brought upon the family seem minute( which it isn't, but hey). They had been living with an even bigger scandal. One that had occurred over half a century ago. One that would shake the very foundations of the law that they were standing on. One that had been sitting at their table all along. One that was no longer Nillus Filus. One that would lay bare depths of depravity. One that would shine a different light and have the power to vindicate the female relative. If and only if they were willing to truly look inwards and do the necessary work, they would realise that the call has always been coming from inside the house.

Anyway the sun is out and everything seems to be in beautiful bloom even the weeds.
